Set over 24 hours in London, SURGE is a stripped back thriller about a man who goes on a bold and reckless journey of self-liberation. Thriller I actually rather enjoyed the premiss of this film. Ben Whishaw is "Joseph", a rather skint security man working at an airport who goes on a splurge - fuelled by a new found propensity for bank-robbing. Never violent or intimidating, just a triumph of sheer brass-neckery that indulges a twenty-four hour period in which he gets to live out some of his dreams, help some new-found friends and generally have a bit of a ball... Sadly, though, despite a quite charismatic effort from the lead, the production is a cheap as chips.
